AREL and ARBL join the TERI initiative "Ligting a Billion Lives" program

It definitely is another milestone in the history of Amara Raja. Amara Raja Batteries Limited (ARBL) and Amara Raja Electronics Limited (AREL) have formally joined hands with the Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) in its Lighting a Billion Lives program.
Amara Raja Batteries Limited shall be one of the four technology partners in the LaBL program alongside Nichia, Japan; Texas Instruments, USA and Regnant Lighting. Amara Raja Electronics shall partner with TERI in the LaBL program.
The partnership was announced on 23rd July 2010 at Delhi through the unveiling of a solar lantern developed by Amara Raja Electronics Limited. Present on the occasion to unveil the lantern were Mr. Jitin Prasada, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, along with Mr. Deepak Gupta, Secretary, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Dr RK Pachauri, Director General TERI and Ms. Akanksha Chaurey, Director Decentralised Energy Solutions as well as LaBL’s solar technology partners from India and overseas.
Together, the initiative shall provide off-grid lighting solutions for rural electrification through cost effective solar lanterns with cutting edge technology, high bright illumination and affordability.
AREL shall support TERI to develop and customise solar products in its LaBL initiative and also help to set-up of charging stations on a turn key basis across various locations. AREL shall also provide specialised information as regards to testing and certification of solar products.
ARBL on its part shall provide technological know how in battery technology, make available batteries at a discounted price and also help in choice of right batteries for solar products.
Together ARBL and AREL shall provide after sales service support for solar lantern products and charging stations through their nationwide service network. Both shall also support, promote and create awareness for TERI about the Lighting a Billion Lives initiative.
